This article is concerning an upcoming change in our booking number system (estimated to go into effect on 6 March 2019). To prevent issues at your properties, please read the following and share it with the relevant developers in your organisation.
Our booking numbers will soon pass 32-bit, signed integer limit (2,147,483,647). If you handle booking numbers with 32-bit signed integers, this will cause problems such as integer overflow and out-of-bounds exceptions.
What is the impact?
If your system is unprepared to handle this change, reservation processing could break – leading to lost reservations, overbookings and unannounced guests at your properties.
What do you need to do?
Please audit your system to check if booking numbers are handled as 32-bit signed integers. If this is the case, you need to migrate as soon as possible to either 32-bit unsigned, 64-bit signed/unsigned integer or a string representation.
