How can I see the ages of children in a reservation?
If you need to access the ages of the children in a reservation, you can use the ‘guest_count’ feature as a guide. This feature shows you the number of adults and children (along with their ages) that the guest entered into the search before making a booking.
Please note that the information in ‘guest_count’ will not necessarily correspond to the ages selected by the guest when they were making their initial search. Likewise, the number of guests will not necessarily correspond to the number of guests that arrive. However, the actual number should be less than or equal to the maximum occupancy for the room reserved.
In the example below, a guest searches for a property for two adults and two children (aged 6 and 10) on Booking.com:
If that guest ends up making that reservation, you’ll get information about the number and age of the guests in the XML message.
In OTA it looks like this:
<GuestCount AgeQualifyingCode="10" Count="2"/>
<GuestCount Age="6" AgeQualifyingCode="8" Count="1"/>
<GuestCount Age="10" AgeQualifyingCode="8" Count="1"/>
And in B_XML it looks like this:
<guest_count count="2" type="adult"/>
<guest_count age="6" count="1" type="child"/>
<guest_count age="10" count="1" type="child"/>
How can I activate the ‘guest_count’ feature?
The feature can be activated on the Provider Portal. Go to the ‘Administration’ tab and click ‘Feature Management’. It’s called ‘Include reservation-level guest count’.
