Risk-Free Reservations are part of an initiative to give guests the flexibility they’re looking for, while respecting partner policies in case a cancellation might occur. With Risk-Free Reservations, we’ll guarantee the property gets paid and save them the hassle of looking for replacement guests.
How does it work?
We’ll offer guests a more flexible cancellation policy on the property’s behalf. If a guest books this flexible option and later decides to cancel, we’ll actively seek out a new guest to take their place. If we can’t find one, we’ll cover the full cost (commissionable amount) of the reservation ourselves. There are no extra charges or commission for this service.
At the moment, Risk-Free Reservations is only available for selected regions and partners. Depending on the partner's location, they'll be either added to the programme automatically or invited to join. In both cases, they are receiving official communication in advance.
However, properties can always opt-out of Risk-Free Reservations in the 'Policies' section of the Booking.com extranet.
In the previous version of Risk-Free reservation we were withholding the cancellation message until we were able to find a replacement booking. In that case, we sent a modification message from the original Risk-Free booking with the details of the new replacement booking. In case no replacement was found, the cancellation message was released on the check-in date. Thanks to the feedback shared by our partners we decided to test to change this logic. Taking these complications out, a Risk-Free Reservations aligns with any other non Risk-Free Reservation you are processing today.
What do Risk-Free Reservations mean for me as a Connectivity Partner and how does it work?
You don’t need to take any action to enable this feature for your properties. As soon as a booking is made at an eligible property, the reservation will be pushed to your system and availability will be decreased with the booked inventory.
The new improvements will be reflected in the transparency on how we will communicate about Risk-Free bookings. Information will be shared in different fields:
- Room Stay - Room description: Risk-Free policy will be explained in this field
- Free Text: details about how payouts work and where to find more information about the product
In the confirmation message, you will be able to see that the booking is in the Risk-Free program. If the booking is cancelled, availability will be released and updated in the provider’s inventory. We will try to find a replacement booking as long as we have availability to do so. Partners will be able to follow the state of the booking via the information provided in the free text fields and/or by going to the reservation page of their Extranet.
